Data encryption is the act of changing electronic information into an unreadable state by using algorithms or ciphers.
What is Cipher?
What is Cipher?
A cipher is any method of encrypting text.In
addition to the cryptographic meaning, cipher also means
(1) someone
insignificant,
(2) a combination of symbolic letters as twist together of
letters for a monogram.
-
Types :There are three basic encryption methods:
1. Hashing :
The first encryption method, called hashing, creates a unique, fixed-length signature for a message or data set.
2. Symmetric cryptography:
Symmetric cryptography, also called private-key cryptography, is one of the oldest and most secure encryption methods.
3. Asymmetric cryptography:
Also known as public key, This type of cryptography uses two keys, a "private" key and a "public key," to perform encryption and decryption. What is considered sensitive data?
Ensuring that you use data encryption software or use a secure website beginning with "HTTPS" when you enter personal, sensitive data will help prevent identity theft.
Examples:
- Social Security Number
- Credit and Debit card numbers
- Bank account and log in information
- Financial/salary information
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer):
It provides standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. For more details, regarding SSL and DES watch below video:
